Acoustic Stage

This all-volunteer, non-profit organization annually presents 25 concerts and performances by nationally known artists. Recognized nationally as one of the country’s top 10 legendary performance venues by USAirways’ Attaché. Performances are held at the Arts & Science Center Auditorium, or for smaller crowds, at the Hickory Community Theatre Firemen’s Kitchen.

The Green Room Community Theatre

Performing in the Newton-Conover Civic & Performance Place, 60 West Sixth St., Newton. An award-winning community theater featuring a season of musicals, comedies, dramas and children’s plays.

Hickory Choral Society

A volunteer organization of over 125 voices, the Hickory Choral Society presents three concerts annually: a traditional Christmas Concert, a classical Winter Concert and a Spring Concert featuring a guest artist. Free admission.

Hickory Community Theatre

In historic Old Hickory City Hall, 30 3rd St. NW, Hickory. One of the largest community theaters in North Carolina. Operates September-June in two performing spaces. Season includes comedies, dramas, musicals and children’s shows.

Hickory Museum Of Art

243 Third Ave. NE, Hickory. The second-oldest art museum in North Carolina and the first museum in the Southeast to collect American art, the Hickory Museum of Art offers exciting exhibitions, lectures, art classes, films and outreach programs to schools and other groups. Visitors will find unique art items in the Museum gift shop. Located in the Arts and Science Center of Catawba Valley. Call for information on exhibitions or events. Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Closed Mondays.

The Lenoir-Rhyne College Summer Theatre

Performances in late July and early August each year include dramas, comedies, and musicals. In Belk Centrum on Lenoir-Rhyne Campus.

Lenoir-Rhyne Playmakers

7th Ave. and 8th St. NE, Hickory. Playmakers offers mainstage productions in November and April, and a February presentation alternating yearly between children’s theatre and a student showcase event. Call for show information and ticket prices. All plays are staged in the college’s Belk Centrum.

Western Piedmont Symphony

243 3rd Ave. NE, Hickory on the SALT Block. This professional orchestra of 60+ members presents an annual season of top-notch symphonic music featuring guest artists who are rising stars of classical music. The Western Piedmont Symphony is also well noted for its outreach to students. Each year the Chamber Orchestra (a smaller version of the full orchestra) goes "on the road" to bring concerts to nearly 30,000 public, private and home-schooled children in four Hickory metro area counties. Popular "Rug Concerts" and "Silver Serenades" delight both young and old when performed by WPS's resident string quartet - Degas Quartet - one of only two resident string quartets in North Carolina. Degas Quartet also is the featured performer for the UBS Financial Services Chamber Classics Series held in the Arts & Science Center of Catawba. Also under the sponsorship of the Western Piedmont Symphony is a Youth Symphony that provides performance opportunities for gifted amateur musicians. See www.wpsymphony.org
